It's time to start a new project! In the last two years warmetal.nl started as a simple wiki with mostly personal articles about my life but as time went by more and more technical articles appeared. I switches from tiddlywiki to dokuwiki and kept adding articles. It was quite a shock when I started to look at my statistics. A year ago it was less than 2000 visitors a month and last month I had a new record: over 6500 visitors. These visitors are mostly from the US and Russia, but also from Brazil, New Zealand and South Africa, to name a few. All this means warmetal is not fit anymore for all this. Warmetal will always be my personal website so I decided to move all technical articles to 5p-it.com, my new technical website. It will take a few weeks but in combination with new software everything will be better.

Ok, I moved, I switched jobs, and although I didn't add or updated hardly any page the last month I now had more than 7000 visitors… So it's time to take steps. Because the new setup is going to take more time than expected I decided to stick to the old wiki, dokuwiki, to dramatically lower the time and effort to switch.

  • Enable php5
    • In the webserver, go to “httpdocs”
    • Locate the file ”.htaccess”
    • Add a line with “AddHandler x-httpd-php5 .php” (without quotes)

    • Unpack the distribution tarball and upload/copy the files to the httpdocs folder
    • Open the install.php in your browser and follow the instructions
      • Wiki name: 5P-IT
      • Initial ACL policy: Public, read for everyone, write and edit for registered users only

    • Use nice URLs through rewriting
      • Enable in Configuration Settings → Advanced Settings → Use Nice URLs: .htaccess
